Responding to the construction of fabric, my work explores the beauty of surface design through stitch. I work on how fabric is formed and the textures and patterns which naturally occur within its surface.
I create pieces which reflect the construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of these surfaces, using stitch to either repair or enhance the existing surface. I am interested in how the combinations and interactions of materials affect the surface of the work, and how directional light provides a further dimension. I work mainly using wool, cotton and linen.
I co-run Art School Ilkley offering a range of creative workshops for all ages.
