Living on the edge of the West Yorkshire moors, and drawn to wild and ancient surroundings, I paint and work with clay, applying the same principal of building up layers and texture in both mediums. Painting with oils and acrylics, often adding collage materials, I try to evoke a sense of a moment from the places I love to be or have an affinity with. When working with clay, I build up the surface using slips, oxides and glazes, often multi-firing a piece until satisfied with the results, hoping to create an object that may have been found.
I’m fascinated with colour and texture, an essential element in my life and work. With a love of the sea and the moors I feel rooted in such environments particularly West Yorkshire and West Cornwall. I’m passionate about creating semi abstract works in response to my experience of these places. After 10 years running my studio/gallery in Richmond and 23 years living there, I’m excited to return to West Yorkshire and build relationships with local Galleries and Artists. I was part of Great North Art Show 2018, and have enjoyed participating in both Saltaire and Staithes Art Festivals the past few years.
