Joy Godfey

2017 Art Trail

My website www.joygodfrey.com provides comprehensive coverage of my work in various media including oils, etching, screenprinting and bronze casting.

Exhibited in Manchester, York, Leeds and Bradford City art galleries. I have always made my own paints from the original pigments – I can thus create very pure colours at a fraction of the cost and, having made my own oils for many years, I am now turning my attention to making watercolour paints.

2016 Art Trail

I started my art training at the age of 36, enrolling for a four year course at Bradford College. I was soon captivated by the process of silkscreen printing which I took up seriously on leaving college. I acquired my own studio – and my own homemade screenprinting press – and over the years have produced many and various editions of mainly landscape subjects of Yorkshire and the more Northern dales.

Painting has always been there but mainly in a supportive role – it is now beginning to surface as a medium in its own right rather than as a useful tool prior to a screenprint. I make my own paints from the original pigments which I obtain from London and I prime my own canvases. For watercolours, I use 100% cotton paper – handmade where possible as the rough edges give it a special quality.

My work has been shown at the Northern Young Contemporaries, Manchester, and I have exhibited in major exhibitions in Leeds City Art Gallery, Cartwright Hall, Bradford, York City Art Gallery and at the Great North Art Show, Ripon Cathedral. My work is in public and private collections and on view at Studio Open Days.
